The Sims 4 is an open-ended life simulation game developed by both Maxis and The Sims Studio and published by Electronic Arts for the PC on September 2, 2014. It was later ported to the Mac on February 17, 2015 and to both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 17, 2017. The fourth major entry in the Sims franchise, The Sims 4 features redesigned Create-a-Sim and Build Modes (both with improved customization options), as well as a new "emotion" system (altering each Sim's personality and ability based on their current emotion) and improved Sim multitasking. Like its predecessors, the game has received numerous full-fledged expansion packs over the years (as well as two types of content packs: small "stuff packs" and large "game packs"). The game was controversial in its first few years due to the exclusion of numerous features from previous Sims games (such as the "toddler" life stage and swimming pools), most of which were added (alongside other new features) in free game patches
